High Netherfauld House Farm
Project Overview
High Netherfauld House Farm BESS is a proposed 500MW battery energy storage project consisting of 260 battery units located on a former storage site beside the M74 at High Netherfauld Farm House.
The site is low-grade land and is largely laid with hardcore. The proposal has therefore been designed to avoid the loss of high-quality agricultural land or ecologically sensitive land.
The development as proposed provides additional essential energy infrastructure in support of UK renewable energy generation and carbon reduction policies and targets nationally. The project supports the transition to a flexible, low-carbon electricity system by helping balance supply and demand as more renewable generation connects to the network. Battery storage can store electricity when generation is high and release it when demand increases.
Battery energy storage helps manage variability in electricity generation and demand by providing fast-response flexibility to the grid. This supports system stability as more renewable generation connects to the network.
